Choosing a Template

  1. Take attendance for each category. If players who are on the original draw are not in attendance, you need to make up a new draw.
  2. If the total number of teams is more than seven, you will have two pools in the category.
  3. Divide the teams into two equal pools. Avoid placing teams from the same school in the same pool. Using the record sheet provided, enter each team name and school in the first column.
  4. Find the appropriate template for the number of teams in each pool and copy the games in order as they appear below on the record sheet. For example, if you have 13 teams in a category, there is one pool of six and one pool of seven. Make sure the pools are named ‘A’ and ‘B’ and use the template for the appropriate number of teams.
  5. If the total number of teams in a category is less than or equal to eight you only need one pool.  Find the appropriate template for the number of teams and copy it on the bottom of the record sheet.
  6. Cross off each game once it has been played.

Suggestions

  1. Have all pools start with a different letter. It may be hard to hear in the gym when you call juvenile girls A1 versus junior girls A1.
  2. Try to even out the games played between the short pools and the long pools. For example, play one round of the seven-team pool for every two rounds of the four-team pool. This way, the pools finish their regular play around the same time. This also avoids having the seven-team pool playing many back-to-back games at the end of the day.
