Middle School Badminton Handbook
Membership in the RVSA Badminton league is available to all RVSD schools with students in grades 7 to 8.

- Eligibility rules are those set forth in the RVSA By-Laws Article II.
- The categories for participation are:
- Grade 7 Boys Singles, Girls Singles, Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles, Mixed Doubles
- Grade 8 Boys Singles, Girls Singles, Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles, Mixed Doubles
- Schools can register a maximum of two competitors/teams to the Divisional Championship tournament.

- Participating schools are required to send one representative to the pre-season badminton meeting, held at the end of April.
- A Badminton commissioner is approved by the governing body for a minimum two-year term.
- The sports coordinator puts together the drawmaster package and assigns schools for events.
- Participating schools are assigned as drawmasters by the sports coordinator.

Rules and Regulations |
- All games shall be played according to Canadian Badminton Association rules, with the following exceptions:
- Grade 7 events score to 11 points
- Grade 8 events score to 11 points.
- Aggregate points are based on the following scores:
- First place: 3 points
- Second place: 2 points
- Third place: 1 point
- The following dress code is in effect during all tournaments:
- Clean running shoes.
- White or school-issued, short sleeved, t-shirt.
- Plain-coloured or school-issued shorts - no cut offs, sweat pants, rugby pants etc.
- Players not dressed in appropriate clothing are denied the privilege of going on the court until acceptable clothing is worn. Drawmasters will not hold up the schedule waiting for a player to change clothing.
- In the event of a tie at the RVSA Divsional Championship tournament, the following tie breaking procedures are used to determine the higher standing:
- If two teams are tied, the match between the two teams breaks the tie.
- Tie-breaking games to 11 are played based on the rankings. If three teams are tied go to the next step and rank the teams first, second and third based on the following:
- Number of wins in the matches played between the tied teams. If this breaks the tie for one team, that team ranks one and the match between the other two teams ranks them second and third.
- Points for minus points against.
- Points against.
- If the tie is for first place, the number one-ranked team is awarded first place in the pool and the teams ranked second and third play a tiebreak game for second in the pool.
- If the tie is for second, the number two and three-ranked teams play one game to 11 and the winner plays the first-ranked team one game to 11 to determine second place in the pool.

Facilities and Equipment |
- Shuttles used at the RVSA Divisional Championship tournament are the Yellow Fight, Green band, Yonex - Mavis 300.
- The RVSA Divisional Championship tournament location is to be determined.
- Due to the large number of participating schools, it is difficult to provide lockable changerooms for all teams. Players are asked to leave valuables with their coach/supervisor while on the court.
- Host schools are to ensure adequate nets, drawmaster tables and players benches for the tournament. If there are concerns, notify the sports coordinator.

Drawmasters and Their Duties |

- A judge is provided by the drawmaster at the request of the players.

Code of Conduct |
All athletes and parents must sign the RVSA Code of Conduct for Athletes and Spectators prior to participating in any exhibition or RVSA event. Coaches must also sign the RVSA Code of Conduct for Coaches. Failure to complete the form results in that participant being disqualified from play and may result in his/her team forfeiting points gained while participating with an ineligible participant.

Team Cancellation Procedures |
Once a school has sent in its registration, minor changes can be made up to the Tuesday prior to the tournament. These changes should be done by email to the Sports Coordinator.

Grievances and Disciplinary Procedures |
All grievances are dealt with according to the RVSA Appeal Policy - RVSA By-Laws Article XII.

The RVSD sponsors awards for RVSA Divisional Championship tournaments. They include the following:
- First, second and third-place medallions for all categories.
- RVSA Divisional Championship banner for the school with the highest aggregate total points.
- Fourth-place ribbons for all categories.
- Points are based on the following:
- First place - 3 points.
- Second place - 2 points.
- Third place - 1 point
