Jr. A Basketball Rules at a Glance
All games are played according to FIBA (Federation Internationale de Basketball) rules. The following Rules at a Glance incorporate FIBA rules with our own Rocky View rule modifications.
- Any type of pressure is allowed. After the offensive team reaches their front court, the defense must revert to man-to-man coverage unless double teaming the ball carrier. Defenders may not employ front court press when they have a lead in the score of fifteen (15) points or more. The referee will stop play for violation and warn the offending coach and player(s). A technical foul will be assessed for continued violation. Double-teaming the ball carrier is allowed. A player may not be double teamed unless they are in possession of the ball. - Schools have no jersey restrictions with regard to numbering or undershirts.
- Seeding Tournament Games
- Two (2) twelve (12) minute halves running time.
- One (1) thirty (30) second time out per half per team.
- In the event of a tie game, the result will stand and each team will receive 1 point in the standings.
- Warm-up is dependant on the tournament timing and is at the official’s discretion.
- Regular Season Games
- Quarters of ten (10) minutes will be played.
- The last two (2) minutes of the 4th quarter will be stop-time. In the event that a team is up by 15 points, no stop-time will occur.
- A one (1) minute break will be given between the each quarter and half time is to be five (4) minutes long.
- Two (2) one (1) minute time-outs per half per team.
- Warm-up is dependant on the tournament timing and is at the official’s discretion.
- In the event of overtime the first team that scores 4 points in a five (5) minute overtime period will be declared the winner.
- Size of the basketball is a size 6.
