Jr. B Basketball Rules at a Glance
- Each half is 16 minutes running time, with the last two minutes of each half played stop time.
- There are five time outs during regulation play and one per overtime period.
- There is a three-minute half time.
- Pressing by any team is not allowed. Man-to-man half-court defence is allowed. No zone defence is allowed at anytime.
- Referees give a 10-second warning to any team they feel is delaying the game.
- In held-ball situations, teams alternate taking possession of the ball at the designated spot nearest to where the held ball occured.
- The home team has choice of bench, while visiting team has choice of basket.
- Once control of the ball is established off the backboard, defence must vacate to half court.
- Substitutions occur freely on dead balls (as per ASAA rules). Coaches attempt to provide players with equal playing time, with no athlete playing more than eight minutes per half.
- The host school clearly marks the foul line (with tape) three feet closer to the basket. Players may shoot from any position they wish behind that line.
- Basket height is the standard 10 feet.
- Referees may reduce warm-up and/or half time to run the tournament on schedule.
- The bonus penalty is shot when a team reaches seven team fouls in one half.
- On an over-and-back call, possession is taken in the front court only.
- The ball is in-bounded from the nearest end or side line.
- There is no handle in the back court.
- Four opponents of the free-thrower and two teammates of the free-thrower are permitted on the free throw lane. All other players are to be behind the free-throw line.
