Cheerleading Handbook
Membership in the RVSA Cheerleading league is available to all RVSD schools with students in grades 10 to 12.

- Eligibility rules are those set forth in the ASAA Handbook.
- The categories for participation are:
- Large Squad: 1 male, 13 to 20 members
- Small Squad: 1 male, 4 to 12 members
- Co-ed Squad: 2 or more males, 4 to 20 members
- To qualify for the High School Zone competition, teams must place first or second in the RVSA Divisional Championship competition. Wildcard spots may become available at the Zone competition if not all events are filled.
- In the event that the qualified team cannot attend Zones, the following rules apply:
- Teams are replaced by the next highest placed team in the same event.
- Only those team members listed as substitutes may be used on a school team.

- A Cheerleading commissioner is approved by the governing body for a two-year term.
- By November 1st, the commissioner, the sports coordinator and the event host contact schools with details of the RVSA Divisional Championship competition and ask for the number of teams entering.
- Participation in the RVSA Cheerleading league includes the RVSA Divisional Championship competition.
- The sports coordinator and the commissioner base the competition format on the number of teams entered in each category.
- The sports coordinator is responsible for submitting RVSA teams to the Zone host.

Rules and Regulations |
- All are executed according to Alberta Cheerleading Association rules as outlined in the ASAA handbook.
- In the event of a tie the following is applied in this order:
- Highest difficulty score.
- Highest kinetic score.
- Highest overall impression score.
- If a tie still remains, it stands.

Facilities and Equipment |
- The Cheerleading commissioner determines the location of the RVSA Divisional Championship competition.
- The competition is held in February.
- The commissioner and the sports coordinator ensures that the host school has the proper safety equipment available, including 42 x 42 ft mats. The host must have a sound system with either a CD or a cassette player.

Officials and Their Duties |
- Judges are chosen by the sports coordinator in consultation with the Cheerleading commissioner and the Alberta Cheerleading Association judging director.
- All judges must have participated in a recognized judges clinic within the current competitive season.

Code of Conduct |
All athletes and parents must sign the RVSA Code of Conduct for Athletes and Spectators prior to participating in any exhibition or RVSA event. Coaches must also sign the RVSA Code of Conduct for Coaches. Failure to complete the form results in that participant being disqualified from play and may result in his/her team forfeiting points gained while participating with an ineligible participant.

Team Cancellation Procedures |
- ASAA team registrations are due on January 22. A school may add players to the team list after January 22 and on or before February 8. These registrations are to be done online on the ASAA website.
- Cancelling an entire team from the RVSA Divisional Championship competition changes the format, therefore all teams must be confirmed no later than three weeks prior to the event.

All grievances are dealt with according to the RVSA Appeal Policy - RVSA By-Laws Article XII.
