  1. Commissioner

Thank you to Mike Sera for the great work in his first year as commissioner.

  1. Reviews and Evaluations
    1. Stats Review

Thanks to Mike Sera for his work as statistician. Season stats were distributed. In general, score sheets were filled out correctly and clearly this year.

    1. Regular Season Varsity

The causes, consequences and possible solutions for the running of scores were discussed. The inequity between teams and coaches new to Rocky View are some of the reasons cited for the disparity in scores. The risk of injury that goes up when the score runs up was mentioned as a consequence. Other comments included the fact that some teams don’t like being played down to and that strong teams can’t expect their second string not to play its best. The group concluded that the issue needs to be sorted out between administrators but that it would be brought forward to the Parameters meeting in June. It was decided that we want to avoid introducing regulations regarding running scores.

    1. Regular Season Junior Varsity

The inability of junior varsity Rocky View teams to play zone defence in league play was discussed. Some coaches thought that, in order to develop the fundamentals, it’s good for Rocky View teams to play man-to-man. Others thought it frustrating that once teams get to Zones or Provincials, zone defence is allowed and teams have limited time to practice. It was also mentioned that community leagues don’t play zone defence either. The group discussed different solutions.
Motion:  Rob Wilson, Chestermere, moved that junior varsity boys play the first five games of the season man-to-man defence and the second half zone/multiple defence. Mike Friesen, Cochrane, seconded the motion.
Vote: Motion passed: 5 in favour, 1 abstained
ACTION: JM to determine if rule changes go to Parameters and update handbook.
Motion: Nancy Dutchik, Cochrane moved that junior varsity girls play the first five games of the season man-to-man defence and the second half zone/multiple defence. Joe McLaughlin, George McDougall, seconded the motion.
Vote: Motion defeated: 3 in favour, 3 against

    1. Officials
      1. Some coaches requested that officials not work the same schools all the time. ACTION:  JM to talk to John Weiland about this.
      2. There were some instances of officials being late. Coaches must let JM or John Weiland know about it as officials are fined by the CBOA for being late.
      3. Coaches felt that, in general, officials were more “user-friendly” this season.
      4. Player technical fouls were down; coach technicals were up slightly. In general, coaches thought that this season showed a positive result of the removal of the three-technical rule.
