Curling Post-season Meeting Minutes

March 13, 2006

  1. Attendees

Corina Bauer, Bow Valley
Chris Lees, Cochrane
Doreen Bills, WG Murdoch
Jacquie Mirtle, RVSD
Marg Kent, Beiseker

  1. Review of 2006 Bonspiel

Thanks to Dorreen Bills for her great work in this, her final year, as commissioner.

Response was positive about this season’s bonspiel.

Participation numbers were high this year. With 16 boys teams, we filled up all of our booked ice and had to scramble for even more sheets.

The grade nines were a very welcome addition to the bonspiel and all agreed including them is beneficial to the development of curling in the Division.

Coaches are satisfied with the Airdrie Curling Club and agree that Airdrie is a good venue to hold future competitions.

  1. 2007 Commissioner

This is a first call for a coach to step in as commissioner for the 2007 and 2008 seasons (commissioners terms are two years). The time commitment is small leading up to the bonspiel: a couple of hours to do the draw with the sports coordinator. Then the commissioner needs to be on-site throughout the week of competition.

  1. 2007 Season
    1. Registration

Due to the large number of boys teams this season, the group discussed limiting the number of teams.
Motion:  Doreen Bills, WG Murdoch, moved that schools can enter a maximum of three teams in each category.
Vote:  Motion passed: 4 in favour, 0 against.

It is also recommended that when schools register for the Divisional bonspiel, they also register their players with the ASAA. The RVSD deadline will be the same as the ASAA deadline and athletic directors will be sent a registration reminder prior to that deadline.

    1. Divisional: Feb 5-9

Airdrie Curling Club ACTION:  JM to book the Airdrie Curling Club for February 5 to 9, 2007.

    1. Zones: Dates not yet determined.

If Rocky View would like to put forward a bid to host Zones, then Jacquie needs to take our intention to the spring Zone meeting May 2.

    1. Provincials: March 2-3, Red Deer

  1. Trophies

Championship schools are responsible for engraving trophy plates.

  1. Handbook Review

The group discussed the tie-breaking procedures outlined in the handbook.
Motion:  Corina Braun, Bow Valley, moved that Article IV, 3. c. of the handbook [tie-breaking procedures] be changed to read “each skip throwing one rock, with sweepers.”
Vote:  Motion passed: 4 in favour, 0 against
ACTION:  JM to determine whether or not rule changes go through Parameters and update the handbook.
