  1. Review of 2005 tournament

Thanks to Glen Brooker and Nancy Dutchik for organizing the tournament.

ND, who sent comments to sports coordinator before meeting, said that Bill Dreiger from Wintergreen was very accommodating and is interested in helping develop our program in his role as host course.

Comments made during the meeting regarding the practice facility: the quality of the practice facility was poor and there weren’t enough stalls; the chipping green was good but the putting green wasn’t open. Concern was also expressed at the difficulty of the course, especially for grade 9 girls.

2005 Division Tournament results are posted at www.rockyview.ab.ca

  1. 2006 Commissioner

Marie Bernard, Beiseker. 947-3883

  1. 2006 Host

Beiseker

Springbank is up in the rotation for 2006 but the group discussed moving Beiseker up, mainly to recoup cost and even out travelling distances. The Division Championship rotation is to be redone after 2008 so that the host rotates between east, west and north courses.

The Division Championship tournament will be held the week of September 11, 2006.

The group discussed having the tournament in Strathmore. ACTION: MB to contact Strathmore Golf Course (Brian Bassen) to check availability and costs.

  1. 2006 South Central Zone Championships

The group decided to bid for the right to host the 2006 Zone Championship tournament. The Zone tournament is also to take place the week of September 11, 2005. Rob Wilson is the contact person for the tournament. Michael Sera offered to help host. ACTION: JM to notify Zone of our intention to host.

  1. 2006 Provincial Championship

If provincial championships are held at Wintergreen then we will switch 2006 commissioner and host back to Springbank so that all three tournaments can be held at Wintergreen. ACTION: JM to contact Nancy Dutchik regarding the status of the provincial bid.

  1. Substitute teacher costs

The group discussed the fact that some schools don’t cover the cost of substitute teachers and that the cost is often charged to the student. It was suggested that RVSD cover half of the cost of a substitute for that day. ACTION: JM to investigate the possibility of RVSD covering half a sub for each school. A decision is to be announced at the pre-season meeting in June.

  1. Trophies

It was decided that the trophy plates should have the name of the school and the team score. ACTION: JM to get plates made with just the winning school’s name for years 2003 and 2004. The plates for 2005 will feature the school’s name and the team score.

Upon suggestion by RW, it was decided that winning schools are to bring their trophies to the post-season meeting so that the sports coordinator can make plates and any repairs.

  1. Handbook

Discussed eligibility and the need for coaches to use discretion when choosing their teams.
MOTION: Made by Ken Payne and seconded by Rob Wilson
Athletes must have a qualifying round score of, at the most, 100 for boys and 125 girls in order to compete at the Division Championship tournament.
PASSED: Unanimous vote in favour of the motion.

The yardage guidelines established at the pre-season meeting in June should be in the handbook. ACTION: JM to put yardage guidelines into handbook.
