Middle School Basketball Pre-season Meeting Minutes January 10, 2006
Brad Walls, Kathyrn
Thanks to Christine Parker, Springbank Middle 242-4456, who will serve as our commissioner this season.
The Middle School Basketball section of the handbook was distributed. An “unwritten” eligibility rule was brought to the pre-season meeting. The group felt the rule should be included in the handbook. The use of size 6 balls for Jr. A boys was discussed. To be consistent with community and club teams, the Jr. A boys would need to move up to a size 7 ball. Two arguments against moving up to size 7 balls: extra cost and increased storage space.
Jr. A and Jr. B Rule Modifications were distributed and discussed. Some points were clarified. ACTION: Sports coordinator to update the rule modifications and distribute to coaches and officials.
Because of the new play-off format (i.e. the top Tier 2 teams will not be moving up to compete for the Tier 1 title) the group decided to play the Division tournament in two days. Therefore, Tuesday, February 28 was taken off the schedule. Teams will play three games at the seeding tournament and two games at the following two tournaments. Games are scheduled in 60-minute time slots. The group discussed, and the sports coordinator emphasizes, the dynamic nature of Jr. A basketball. With teams moving in and out of tiers each week, it is impossible to set schedules ahead of time.
Hosting Responsibilities document was distributed.
ACTION: Sports coordinator to book officials – Jr. A (two per game) and B (one per game) – through the Calgary Basketball Officials Association. Our contact at the CBOA is John Weiland at makethecall@shaw.ca.
Game sheets and a sample tournament results sheet were distributed. Please note that if we don’t receive the tournament results sheets, we can’t realign the league over the weekend. This delay means you won’t get the next schedule until mid-week.
Jr. A $300
ACTION: Schools are to declare Jr. A teams by Friday, January 13, 4:30 pm
Code of Conduct forms were distributed. Coaches and athletes are to sign the forms, which are then submitted to your administrator.
ACTION: Sports coordinator to update handbook to reflect that Jr. A Tier 1 and 2 winners receive a banner and medallions. Jr. B participants receive ribbons.
March 21, 5:00 pm at the ESC Meeting Room 1.
Sports coordinator: Jacquie Mirtle
