  3. Commissioner's Report
Thank you to Steve Repic for his work as football commissioner this season. SR made two points regarding the following:
    a. Game Evaluation Sheets
These sheets need to be filled out more accurately and coaches must sign them. If there is a dispute about a major penalty then it must be resolved with the officials on the field. Disciplinary action is taken based on the information submitted from these sheets so it is critical that they are accurate.
Motion: Dan Dumont (George McDougall) moved that coaches must sign the game sheet immediately upon completion of the game. Andy Kirk seconded the motion. Motion passed: 3 in favour, 2 abstained.

    b. Complaints About Officials
SR would like to check that coaches know the proper channel for lodging a complaint with the CFOA. Coaches (or assistant coaches) are not to go directly to the CFOA; they are to take the complaint to the sports coordinator and football commissioner who will then decide on what action, if any, should be taken.

The group discussed major penalties and different scenarios for disciplining players. The group decided that current RVSA regulations regarding major penalties are sufficient for now.

  4. 2006-07 Season Review
    a. Schedule
A George McDougall tier change mid-way through the season meant that we had to change the schedule to accommodate another play-off round. As a results, the Chestermere vs. Bow Valley game was bumped and rescheduled after league play-offs. The game was, ultimately, never played. Bow Valley expressed their dissatisfaction with the losing that game.

    b. Officials
Two issues were brought up by coaches. One was that there was inconsistent calls made, even between crews. Action: JM to invite John Nichol to 2007-08 pre-season meeting. The other was that officials were late.

    c. Physiotherapy
We had 100% coverage from Dinos Sport Therapy. Coaches mentioned they thought the trainers were too quick in calling an ambulance. Action: JM to contact Dinos Sport Therapy and go over their criteria for calling an ambulance.

    d. Results
JM reiterated that she would like an accompanying email to the faxed-in score sheets so that results can be posted on the web in a timely manner.

    e. Fields
There were no field issues this year, other than the fact that George McDougall doesn't have a home field. The status of their field is still up in the air.

    f. Awards
The group discussed the process for determing Rocky View Football awards and decided that the current process needs review. Action: JM to strike an awards committee that will include Brian Utley and Robbie McNab. Items for the committee to look at are: doing all the awards in one evening; keeping the secret ballot; impressing upon coaches how critical it is to attend the awards meeting; looking at the Coaching Staff of the Year Award; putting the quarterback and running back into the same category.

  5. 2006-07 Awards Banquet
    Monday, November 28, 6:30
    Chestermere High
Submit numbers to Brian Utley by Monday, November 20.
Send rosters to BU and please bring a helmet and a jersey. The cost will be $15-$16. The guest speaker is Blake Nill, head coach of the U of C Dinos.

  6. 2007-08 Season
The group looked at various schedules we could implement, now that Foothills is no longer in our league. After much discussion, the coaches propose:
    - A single round robin.
    - The league championship is awarded based on standings after the regular season. Ties are broken according to the head-to-head result.
    - Teams then play Provincial play-downs to determine who moves on from each tier.
    - The third place team from either Tier 2 or Tier 3 plays Bow Valley.
    - The first week of the schedule, teams will play outside of their tier.
    - The schedule will continue to cycle down home and away.
Action: Before drafting schedule, JM to find out official ASAA start date so we can comply with provincial regulations.

  7. Scheduling Meeting
The group decided that a scheduling meeting wasn't necessary. Action: JM to coordinate scheduling via email.

  8. Pre-season Meeting
Thursday, April 26, 2007 - Attendance is mandatory

  9. Other
Coaches talked about the speed of play and how we might be able to slow games down. All agreed that play is fast but if we change it within Rocky View, it would be different during exhibition and provincial play so a larger change needs to occur. Action: Steve Etcheverry will draft a motion or proposal and submit to the ASAA Football Commissioner.
