High School Girls Soccer Pre-season Meeting Minutes

September 7, 2006

  1. Attendees
Introduced our new commissioner, Jennifer Munsie from George McDougall. Thanks Jennifer for stepping up.

  2. www.rockyviewsports.com
Introduced to coaches the new website which includes:
Schedule, scores, standings, last year's results
Coaches Corner: Handbook, Meeting Minutes, Score Sheet, Links to South Central Zone, ASAA and also to the Alberta Soccer Association and Canadian Soccer Association

  3. Schedule
Double round robin. Action: JM to make two changes to the schedule to avoid a conflict at Mitford Pond between Cochrane and Bow Valley.

  4. Game cancellation
If a game is going to be called because of weather, we'll try and do it by 2:00 pm. If you are delayed because of weather please call the opposing coach. Here is the coaches' cell phone list:
    Jenn Munsie, George McDougall 990-5053
    Laura Larson, Chestermere 890-2175
    Mike Dang, Bow Valley 461-4190
    Carolyn McLeod, Cochrane 837-9337
    John Pearce, Bert Church
    Deanna Ring, Springbank

  5. Registration deadline
Action: Coaches are to submit rosters via email by Monday, September 18.

  6. Officials
Action: JM to book officials this year. Names of people appreciated. Update: As of September 15, we have refs for over half of our games. I still need a ref for the Tuesday, September 19 game in Chestermere. In fact, I don't have any Chestermere games booked yet.

  7. Results
Coaches can dowload a Soccer Score Sheet here. Action: Coaches are to email score to Jacquie and fax scoresheets to 945-4111.

  8. Awards
The RVSD covers the cost of first, second and third place medallions, a banner, and a trophy.

  9. League Fees
$280 per school - increase of $125 to cover the cost of the double round-robin.

  10. Code of Conduct
Action: Players and coaches are to sign Code of Conduct forms and submit to school administrator. This is to be done before your first game.

  11. Out-of-pocket expenses
The mileage claim has increased to 45 cents per kilometre. Download an Extra-Curricular Expense Form here. Just a reminder that you can claim mileage to and from meetings.

  12. Suspension Rule
    Reviewed the following:

Players/coaches ejected from a game due to unsportsmanlike and/or flagrant conduct or receiving one red card or two yellow cards in one game are automatically suspended for the next league or playoff game and receive a disciplinary letter from the commissioner, with copies sent to the coach, principal and sports coordinator.

Players/coaches accumulating three or more penalty (yellow) cards during the season are suspended from the next league or play off game and receive a disciplinary letter from the commissioner, with copies sent to the coach, principal and sports coordinator.

Players that receive two or more red cards in a season have their participation in the RVSA Soccer league reviewed by the commissioner, sports coordinator and RVSD superintendent designate.

    13. Foothills and Strathmore
Foothills and Strathmore have requested some exhibition games with Rocky View. Coaches thought the schedule was too full for that this year.

14. South Central Zone Notice of Motion
There is a motion going to the South Central Zone meeting on Tuesday that involves staging a Zone championship for girls soccer. The group was positive toward the idea. Update: The Zone voted in favour of moving toward a girls (and boys) soccer championship. Strathmore wants to do it for this year and is going to propose dates. Action: JM to inform coaches of a possible championship tournament in October.

15. Driver's Abstract
It was pointed out that parents now need a driver's abstract in order to transport students. Action: JM to talk to Darrell Couture. Update: JM raised the issue at the RVSA Executive meeting and it seems as though there is inconsistent information out there. The Executive will draft an information sheet for coaches.

16. Tie-breaking Procedures
Because this season features a double round-robin with no play-offs, the coaches voted to implement the following tie-breaking procedure for this year only:
If, at the end of the double round-robin, there is a tie in the standings then there will be a play-off game to determine the higher standing.
