Badminton Pre-Season Meeting Minutes

2. Commissioner
Thank you to Carol Byler for acting as badminton commissioner this year. Carol is an assistant coach at Cochrane High and has many years of badminton experience.

3. Tournament Dates
Divisionals - Sat., Apr. 21
Jr. High Zones - Sat, May 5 in Three Hills
Sr. High Zones - Fri. and Sat., Apr. 27 and 28 in Canmore
Provincials - Fri. and Sat., May 4 and 5 in Calgary

4. Registration
The group talked about the registration process and looked at ways to avoid having to re-do the draws several times in the days leading up to tournaments. It was decided to push back the registration date to:

5. Classifications and Categories
Juvenile - Grade 9 - three teams in each category (singles, doubles, mixed)
Junior - Under 16 as of Sep. 1, 2006 - two teams in each category
Intermediate - Under 17 as of Sep. 1, 2006 - two teams in each category
Senior - Under 19 as of Sep. 1, 2006 - two teams in each category
* Note that Junior and Intermediate athletes can play up, Juvenile cannot.

6. RVSA Handbook
Reviewed Handbook and Simplified Badminton Rules. Action: Carol Byler to review serving rules and email Jacquie with changes. Update: Changes have been made.
Note: Please inform your athletic director about next year's introduction to rally point.

7. Venues and Drawmasters
Mel Sly has offered to co-Drawmaster. A Drawmaster Checklist is on the web, as are Badminton Draw Templates.

Drawmaster information will be sent by email this year.

8. League Fees
$55 per school

9. Awards
First, second and third-place medallions for all categories. Action: JM to Blue Box to venues.
Divisional Championship banner for highest aggregate total. Action: JM to Blue Box to Cochrane (where all results will be brought).
The Divisional Championship trophy is to be renamed the Mel Sly Rocky View High School Badminton Championship Trophy.

10. Code of Conduct
Action: Athletes, parents and coaches must sign Code of Conduct forms before the first league game or they are not eligible to participate. Principals are to send their declarations to the sports coordinator prior to the tournament.

11. Supervision
Action: JM to book community use (sports supervisors) for Mitford and Bearspaw, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Bow Valley and Cochrane do not need a supervisor.

12. Dress Code
School colours or white t-shirts. Please remind your athletes that sleeveless tops, hats and bandanas are not permitted.

13. Shuttles
Yellow Yonex Mavis 300
Action: JM to order 26 tubes, seven for each venue except for Bow Valley, which only needs five tubes.

14. Out-of-pocket Expenses
Expenses are covered for teacher and community coaches. Forms can be downloaded from the Coaches' Corner section of the website.

15. Results
All results are to go to Cochrane at the end of the day. Action: JM to get results from Bearspaw.

16. Zones
The top two teams/competitors go to the Zone championships. Action: JM to register Rocky View teams.

17. Other
Action: JM to contact Mitford and Bearspaw athletic directors regarding setting up the nets, drawmaster tables and on-deck benched.
