  2. Commissioner 2006-07
Thank you to Mike Sera for his great work in his second year as commissioner.

  3. Schedule
Reviewed the fact that the sports coordinator does not call games due to weather. It is up to school administration to make the call, inform the opposing team and then contacting sports coordinator to cancel officials.
Comments about the 2006-07 schedule included:
    - George McDougall JVs played Bow Valley twice before they got to play Springbank
    - Varsity teams didn't feel like it was much of a season, going to a single round robin.
    - There were long breaks between senior games.

  4. Officials
It was difficult to get coverage from the CBOA in Beiseker and there isn't really a clear way to improve this. The possibility of using officials outside of the CBOA was explored during the season but found not possible.

Two comments from coaches were made regarding the CBOA. The first was that there was no reply to feedback sent by email. The second was that refs were sometimes late. Action: Coaches are to let sports coordinator know when officials are late so I can relay that information to John Weiland.

CBOA thought the season went pretty well. Action: JM to invite them to next season's pre-season meeting to go over FIBA rules.

  5. Statistics
It was impossible to compile statistics without score sheets. Both JM and Mike Sera were frustrated with the lack of cooperation getting score sheets in this season. It is the responsibility of the host school's head coach to fax in score sheets.

  6. Divisional Championships
Thank you to Bert Church for hosting Divisional Championships this year.

The following comments were made regarding the Divisional tournament:
    - There was no Rocky View representative to present junior varsity bronze medallions. Action: JM to attempt to find a RVSD representative to attend the games that she can't.
    - Comments were made regarding the poor sportsmanship of some of the fans at Divisionals (and at Zones). This led to discussion about the line between cheering and rude behaviour and how to determine when the line has been crossed. Further discussion asked the question of who is responsible for parents and fans when their behaviour is inappropriate. Regarding cheering, our Code of Conduct states that players and spectators are to offer support of their team rather than critcism of their opponent and also to show appreciation of good plays by both teams. As to who is responsible for parents and fans, the group agreed that, ultimately, it must be administrators from both schools. Coaches can help educate their parents but they can't be expected to know what's happening during a game or to act on it in the middle of a game. What are the consequences to unruly fans? The principal/administrator can remove them from the gym or officials can charge the fan's team with a technical. This begs the question of what are the consequences of breaking our Code of Conduct? Action: JM to put this on the Paramters agenda for discussion with principals.

  7. Provincial Results
Congratulation to Chestermere Girls and Bert Church Boys for their bronze medal performances at Provincials.

  8. Banquet
Tuesday, April 3 at Bert Church
    Cost is $15 per person
The guest speaker is Brett Ralph from the Calgary Stampeders.
Action: Principals are to sign banquet form and submit to Bert Church.
Action: JM to deisgn program and make copies.

  9. 2006-07 Season
Divisional championship and banquet host is Springbank.

Coaches discussed next season's schedule and Beiseker's desire to play junior varsity. JM went over the ASAA regulation regarding grade 9 players playing against senior varsity teams, based on the information she received from the ASAA's Lynda Bourak. There is, however, a discrepancy in interpreting the rule. Action: Allen Gallup to call John Patton and get a ruling, in writing, on this. In the meantime, several motions were put forward. (JM to follow up.)

Motion: Shane Hansen, from Beisker, moved that Beiseker senior varsity girls and boys teams play in the junor varsity league, with no participation in Divisional play-offs. Ron Kuzmickas (Springbank) seconded the motion.
Rationale: Beiseker believes the junior varsity league is a better fit for their skill level.
Coaches' Vote: Motion passed: 18 for, 0 against, 4 abstained.

    Motion:
Shane Hansen, from Beiseker, moved that junior varsity teams play a double round robin schedule with each team playing one exhibition game against Beiseker. The Beiseker exhibition games would not count in the standings. Ken Payne (George McDougall) seconded the motion.
Rationale: League needs to include Beiseker and run a double round robin junior varsity schedule.
Coaches' Vote: Motion passed: 19 in favour, 0 against, 3 abstained

Motion: Dan Eveleigh, from Springbank, moved that, pending approval from the ASAA and Parameters on the first motion, that the senior varsity schedule goes back to a double round robin format. Ryan Haggarty (George McDougall) seconds the motion.
Rationale: Coaches agree that a double round robin is essential to maintaining the quality of the Rocky View senior league.
Coaches' Vote: Motion passed: unanimous, 22 in favour

Motion: Rob Wilson, from Chestermere, moved that if approval on the first motion is not granted either by the ASAA or Parameters, that the senior varsity schedule will be a double round robin format with each team playing one exhibition game against Beiseker. The Beiseker exhibition games would not count in the standings.
Rationale: League needs to include Beiseker and run a double round robin senior varsity schedule.
Coaches' Vote: Motion passed: 20 in favour, 0 gainst, 2 abstained.

  10. Pre-season Meeting
    November 15, 2007

  11. Other
    - Dan Eveleigh questioned the way decisions were made regarding this past season's schedules and why coaches weren't directly consulted. JM explained that the decisions had to be made by administrators and that it was up to schools to bring coaches' points-of-view to the table.
    - Brian Utley would like to bring to the pre-season meeting the idea of a Coaches Agreement.
    - Chestermere would also like to gauge interest for a grade 9 basketball league. Action: Schools are to email Brian.

  12. Awards
Awards winners were named according to the procedure outlined at the pre-season meeting (and subsequently approved by principals). Action: JM to email award winners to coaches for proof reading.
