January 8, 2007

1. Attendees
Brent Leibel, Bert Church
Dave McDougall, Cochrane
Jacquie Mirtle, RVSD
Marg Kent, Beiseker

Absent
Bow Valley (Corina Bauer checked in before the meeting and, as sports coordinator had not heard from anyone, was advised to not make the trip in.)
Chestermere
George McDougall
Springbank
WG Murdoch

2. Commissioner
Marg Kent stated that her and Ira Stroh may be able to co-commission curling this year. Update: Ira has agreed to help out this year as commissioner. Thank you to both Marg and Ira.

3. RVSA Handbookc (click for link)
Reviewed motions that passed through Parameters:

Doreen Bills (WG Murdoch) moved that schools can enter a maximum of three teams in each category, with additional teams (needed to fill the draw) decided by lottery. Rationale: We used every available sheet of ice (and then some) to fit all teams in this year.

Update: The group decided to use extra teams to not only fill out the draw but to replace no-shows.

Corina Bauer (Bow Valley) moved that Article IV, 3. c. of the Handbook (tie-breaking procedures) be changed to read: “If there is a numerical tie, skips’ rocks are thrown with sweepers to break the tie, with each skip throwing one rock.” It currently reads “…with each skip throwing two rocks.” Rationale: This ruling will put us in line with SACA junior curling. Including the sweepers is more practical considering that is how athletes play and practice. Most other provinces follow the same.

8. Team Declaration Deadline
Action: Coaches are to declare teams to Sports Coordinator by 4:30 pm on Monday, January 22. Please respect this deadline. Note that this is also the ASAA registration deadline. When declaring, please indicate the total number of teams that you can enter into that category as I will be using extra teams (by lottery) to fill the draw.
