a. Play-off format
There is nothing currently in the Handbook detailing an eight-team play-off but we will have eight junior varsity and eight senior varsity girls teams this season.
"The play-off formats for junior varsity and varsity depend on the number of teams in the league:
i. Eight teams: A: 8 vs. 1, B: 7 vs. 2, C: 6 vs. 3, D: 5 vs. 4, E: Winner of A vs. Winner of D, F: Winner of B vs. Winner of C, Championship Game: Winner of E vs. Winner of F
ii. Seven teams: A: 7 vs. 2, B: 6 vs. 3, C: 5 vs. 4, D: Winner of 1 vs. A, E: Winner of B vs. C, Championship Game: Winner of D vs. E
iii. Six teams: Six teams: A: 6 vs. 3, B: 5 vs. 4, C: Winner A vs. 2, D: Winner B vs. 1 Championship Game: Winner C vs. Winner D
iv. Five teams: A: 5 vs. 4, B: 3 vs. 2, C: Winner A vs. 1, Championship Game: Winner B vs. Winner C”

4. Schedules
Schedules were circulated with:
Girls playing at 5:30 for the first half of the season and 7:00 for the second half; boys playing at 7:00 for the first half of the season and 5:30 for the second half.
The season opening on September 13.
Teams playing Mondays and Wednesdays.
However, schools weren’t happy with having the same bye weeks as last year.
Action: JM to cycle down the bye weeks and redistribute the schedules.
5. Divisional Championships
The group looked at different scenarios for Divisional Championships, i.e. not holding them on a Saturday, but agreed the following format (same as last year) works best. Depending on the school calendar and when Provincials are being held, we may have to revisit this on a year-to-year basis.
Quarter and semi-finals: Wednesday, November 1 and Friday, November 3 at higher seeds.
Finals: Saturday, November 4 at Bert Church.
6. Zone Championships

8. Officials
No new rule changes and no fee increases.
9. League fees
League fees will be changed to accurate reflect level of play.
Action: JM to break plug-in fees down by gender and junior/varsity status.
10. Team Declaration/Rosters
Final declaration deadline: September 8.
Roster deadline: September 13
Action: Coaches to reply to confirmation email and submit rosters by email.
11. Scoring and Results
Thanks to Doug Massig (Chestermere) who has agreed to do stats again next year.
Action: DM to send coaches an email outlining the format in which he wants to receive results.
12. Code of Conduct
Athletes, parents and coaches must sign Code of Conduct forms before the first league game or they are not eligible to participate. Principals are to send their declarations to the sports coordinator prior to the first league game.
13. Awards
Coaches need to attend the post-season meeting to lobby for their athletes.
Motion: Tim Masse (George McDougall) moved that we move the post-season meeting and banquet back one week to avoid conflicts with teams preparing for Provincials. James King (George McDougall) seconded the motion.
Motion unanimously passed: 9 in favour, 0 against
14. Banquet
Bert Church December 11
15. Post-season meeting
November 28, 4:30
16. JV Pre-season Tournament
The group decided that there isn’t enough time between the start of school and the season opener to hold a pre-season tournament. This is to be looked at on a year-to-year basis, depending on the school calendar.
17. Net Height for JV Boys
It was questioned why we don’t lower the net for JV Boys. The grade 9s play high because the 10s and 11s play at the higher net height at Zones and would be at more of a disadvantage if they played low during the regular season.
18. Forfeiting Games
Teams are reminded that participation in the RVSA Volleyball League includes the Divisional Championship tournament.
