  3. Resolving Issues
Reminded coaches of Article XIII in the By-Laws of the RVSA for resolving conflict:
    1. Coaches and principals should make every attempt to resolve all issues at the inter-school level before moving to the following procedures.
    2. In the event that the issue cannot be resolved between individuals and the schools concerned, the following procedures are followed:
      1. The coach of the sport in questions, in consultation with the principal, presents, in writing, full details of the issue to the sports coordinator within two school days of the issue in question.
      2. The sports coordinator makes a decision on the issue within two school days.
    3. The sports coordinator’s decision may be appealed to the RVSA governing body by the coach and his/her principal. The appeal procedure must be initiated within two school days of the sports coordinator’s decision. The appeal must be made in writing and faxed to the superintendent designate.
    4. Upon receiving the appeal letter, the RVSA governing body must make a decision on the appeal within five school days. The RVSD superintendent of schools must be notified of the decision by the next school day.
    5. If the issue cannot be resolved by the RVSA governing body, the coach and his/her principal may appeal to the superintendent of schools within one school day of the decision. The superintendent of schools makes a decision within three school days of the appeal. This is the final decision regarding the issue.

Regarding any allegations about recruiting or athletic transfers, the ASAA has a procedure for addressing these concerns and the RVSA stands by these procedures, which are outlined in the ASAA Handbook. Allegations should be dealt with according to these procedures.

  4. Schedule
It was a tight schedule again this year, with not a lot of room to reschedule games. Some teams were willing to play Family Day weekend, some weren't. The group discussed options for next year (see item 10.)

  5. Officials
    Coaches comments:
-The level of physical contact was over the line in some games. Coaches discussed how we communicate to officials the kind of play we want to see but decided we can't. It really is up to coaches to set the tone of the game and to control their players. All players and coaches sign the RVSA Code of Conduct and these are the parameters within which all teams should compete.
-It was difficult, again, to get offiicals to Beiseker.

Coaches are reminded that scorekeepers are minor officials and are to be treated as such. If there is a problem or discrepancy, it should be taken to the referee as soon as possible so that it can be resolved.

  6. Results/Statistics
Thank you to those coaches who consistently sent in their score sheets. The sheets are in triplicate so that each coach can leave the game with a copy.

  7. Divisional Championships
Thank you to Springbank for hosting Divisional Championships this year.

  8. Provincial Results
Congratulation to Chestermere Boys and Springbank Girls on their provincial championship seasons.

  9. Banquet
    Wednesday, April 2 at Springbank
    Cost is $17 per person
The guest speaker is Richard Foggo.
Update: New banquet guidelines have been written and JM is standardizing some of the banquet elements.

  10. 2007-08 Season
Updated rotation in handbook: Divisional championship and banquet host is Bow Valley.
    2008-09 Bow Valley
    2009-2010 Chestermere
    2010-11Cochrane
    2011-12 George McDougall
    2012-13 Bert Church
    2013-14 Springbank

Regarding the regular season schedule, the boys will play on Wednesdays and the girls on Tuesdays. Beisker's participation will be the same as this year's: exhbiition games against junior varsity teams.
Action: Coaches are to submit their tournament schedule in the next month or so.
Action: JM to find out, from principals, which schools are willing to play the Family Day week and schedule those teams accordingly.
Coaches discussed different schedule formats, i.e. standard scheduling of two games per week, but couldn't come to any agreement.

  11. Pre-season Meeting
    Thursday, November 13, 2008

  12. Awards
Awards winners were named according to the procedure outlined in the RVSA Handbook.

  13. Other
Coaches discussed the RVSA discipline policy with regards to technical fouls and game suspensions. The group was not willing to look at changing the policy. Action: JM to invite the CBOA to next year's pre-season meeting to discuss coach/official communication.
