Curling Post-season Meeting Minutes

2. Commissioner's Report/Review of 2007-08 Bonspiel
Thank you to Ira Stroh for working as commissioner again this year. Ira thought the bonspiel went well. He was very impressed with the students, as was the Airdrie Curling Club. The buzzer worked well keeping the games on time. The feedback Ira received on the new format ( one and a half days) was positive. The coaches at the meeting agreed, as did their parents and students.

3. 2008-09 Commissioner
The commissioner term is traditionally two years so it's time for another school to step up. Action: Kerri will check to see if one of the curling coaches at George McDougall would fulfill the obligation. The workload is light: the commissioner helps with the draw and also answers technical questions during the competition. Note: The commissioner does not have to be a teacher, he/she can be a community coach.

4. 2008-09 Bonspiel
Wednesday, February 4 and Thursday, February 5 (pending calendar approval)
Airdrie Curling Club

5. Awards
We'll stay with four medallions per category and if a school needs extra then they are to contact sports coordinator after the bonspiel.

6. Handbook Review
No issues or discussion around handbook.

7. 2007-08 Pre-season Meeting
We're going to move the pre-season meeting to an earlier date: Tuesday, November 25, 2008.

8. Zone Curling
In order to determine whether or not Rocky View wants to host Zone curling, JM will investigate the following:
- Do Zones have to be on the Family Day weekend?
- Is the Airdrie Curling Club available on a weekend in February?
- Has the date for Provincials been determined?

9. Other Bonspiels
There are other opportunities to play before the Divisional bonspiel. The SACA website will list tournaments. Corina Bauer recommends the Juvenile level competitions. Red Deer and Canmore also run bonspiels. Some coaches are open to exhbition play between Rocky View schools, prior to the Divisional bonspiel.
