High School Volleyball Post-season Meeting Minutes

2. Commissioner
   Thank you to Mike Bishop, from Cochrane High, for his work as commissioner this year.
   
   
3. Schedule
   Coaches thought the schedule was fine.
   
   
4. Officials
   CVOA coverage was disappointing this year. Thank you to coaches for helping cover all our games. Coaches reported discrepancies between junior and senior varsity calls. In fact, the quality of officiating, in general, was poor. It was also reported that an official showed up in a t-shirt and shorts, no uniform. See further note under Divisional Championships.
   Action: Coaches are to report these incidents to the CVOA or Jacquie as they occur throughout the season.
   Action: JM to talk with Derrick Courtney, as will Mike Bishop, to discuss officiating this season. JM to also offer to help with recruiting officials.
   
   
5. Statistics
   Thanks to Doug Massig, from Chestermere High, for doing stats again this year. Also thank you for scrambling to get the play-off schedule done and out in Jacquie's absence.
   
   
6. Divisional Championships
   Again thank you to principals and coaches for all your work.
   There was only one offical at each Divisional (bronze and gold) match. Coaches also reported that the number of spectators were down with the double championship venue. The reason why we split the venues and held matches on the days we did was to increase our chances of getting coverage from officials.
   Action: JM to confirm with Divisional hosts referee coverage before the November bill is paid.
   
   
7. Banquet
   Monday, December 3 at 6:30
   Bow Valley
   $17
   Deadline for numbers is Thursday, November 22.
   Guest speaker is to be determined. Action: Coaches to forward ideas to Ed Polhill at Bow Valley.
   Action: JM to design and print program.
   
   
8. 2007-08 Season
   Coaches discussed the idea of moving Divisionals to a Friday and Saturday. Another scenario suggested was setting Divisionals up like a tournament (i.e. Zone and Provincials). Coaches also questioned why we have bronze medal junior varsity matches when we don't have senior bronze matches - can we drop the junior bronze match?
   Action: JM to bring these ideas forward to the pre-season meeting agenda.

10. Net Height for JV Boys
    Coaches discussed the Rocky View net height for JV Boys and how it doesn't correlate to other divisions in the Zone or Volleyball Canada. Coaches support lowering Rocky View and trying to standardize net heights in the Zone (and province).
    Action: Chelsea Sommerville, from George McDougall, will take a motion to the Zone, on behalf of Rocky View. Chelsea will report back to the group at the pre-season meeting and coaches can decide if they want to draft an official motion to lower the height in Rocky View.
