- Commissioner
Thank you to Mike Sera for his great work in his fourth year as commissioner. Mike has agreed to act as commissioner again next year.
- 2008-09 Review
Schedule - No coaches' comments regarding the schedule.
Officials - Coaches noted that, overall, the quality of officiating was poor this season although the refs at Divisionals were good. Also noted that they would like to see more variety of officials. Action: JM to talk to CBOA and confirm whether or not John Weiland is assigning next year or if Dick Vandersaam is taking over.
Code of Conduct - JM wanted feedback from coaches regarding fans singling out players on the floor. Action: Take issue to Parameters as administrators need to know this is a violation of our code of conduct.
Rules and Regulations
Motion:
Carol Smith ( Bert Church) moved that junior varsity girls play the first half of a home-and-home series man-to-man defence and the second half zone/multiple defence. Seconded by Bonnie Erickson (George McDougall).
Rationale: Once teams get to Zones and into exhibition tournament play, zone defence is allowed and teams have limited time to practice. This would also put the JV Girls league in line with the JV Boys, who have had this rule since 2006.
Coaches’ Vote: Motion passed: 5 in favour, 1 against.
Results/Statistics - Thanks to Mike for compiling each week.
Thank you to those coaches who consistently sent in their score sheets. Action: JM to look at web-based score reporting for next season.
- Divisional Championships
Thank you to Bow Valley for hosting Divisional Championships this year.
Coaches are asked to look for old Divisional tournament programs and forward them to JM. Action: JM to prepare program for next year's competition.
- Banquet
Tuesday, March 31 at Bow Valley
Cost is $19 per person
No guest speaker is booked. Action: Rob Wilson (Chestermere) and Ian Ferguson (Bert Church) to look at booking Dan Van Horne or Don Horward. Rob and Ian are asked to liaise with Grant Hoe at Bow Valley by March 19.
Action: Coaches are to get numbers to Grant Hoe at Bow Valley by Tuesday, March 24.
- 2009-10 Season
Next season boys will play on Tuesday and girls on Wednesday. The Divisional championship and banquet host is Chestermere. Action: Coaches are to send their tournament schedule to Mike Sera by May 15. Mike also asks coaches to let him know if they are able to play Fridays and Saturdays. It is recommended you get approval from your administrator to play Friday and/or Saturday.
Action: Mike is to send a reminder to ADs with this deadline.
- Pre-season Meeting
Thursday, November 12, 2009
- Awards
Coaches felt very strongly about re-visiting our awards process. After a lengthy discussion, the following was decided
- Award each team a Heart Award
- Drop the Team MVP Award
- Increase the number of All-Star Awards to 12 per league, ensuring each team receives at least one all-star
- Keep major awards (Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Most Valuable Player) the same, As previously stated, coaches feel this is the best way to recognize the best players in the league while still including all schools in the awards process.
Action: JM to seek approval from principals. Update: Principals okayed this procedure and awards were determined as per above.
- Other
Some coaches expressed their concern with the date of the post-season meeting being in the middle of Zone and Provincial play-off runs. Action: JM to look at the 2010 calendar and see if the banquet can be moved to a later date, allowing the post-season meeting to be scheduled after provincials.
