- 2009-10 Season Review
Schedule - This season's schedule sacrificed a bye week for an extra game. Most schools were happy with the seven league games though. The loss of daylight near the end of the season was an issue. Coaches also discussed Bow Valley switching tiers right before the start of play-offs and the impact this had on the league. While Bow Valley made the ASAA deadline, it was at odds with what coaches discussed at the pre-season meeting. Action: JM to follow up with ASAA regarding their tier declaration policy.
Motion: Andy Kirk, Bert Church, moves that we put into place a policy that, with the exception of a necessary tier change due to an increase in population (to be determined by September 30), Rocky View football teams declare tiers by April 1 and that they compete in that tier throughout the regular season and play-offs. Brent Legault, George McDougall, seconded the motion. Rationale: The league schedule needs to be followed and not changed mid-way through the season to try and squeeze in an extra game. Vote: 6 in favour, 0 against.
Note: This motion will be tabled AT Parameters on June 1 but coaches need to be prepared to declare their tiers at the pre-season meeting in March.
Officials - Action: JM and BU to write the CFOA about 5:00 starts after mid-October. It's unsafe and we will request 4:30 starts at that time of year. The group reviewed our discipline policy and recommended changes to our football game sheet. Action: JM to make changes and post on web.
Motion: Brian Utley moves that we implement the following disciplinary policy:
3 major penalties - warning letter
4 majors - one-game suspension
5 majors - warning letter
6 majors - one-game suspension and a game for every subsequent major penalty. Tony Lucas, Springbank, seconded the motion.
Rationale: Officials are not differentiating between unintentional and intentional face mask so an unintentional may lead to a major penalty. Our current policy may be unclear as to the progressive intent of the discipline. Vote: 6 in favour, 0 against.
Physiotherapy - Coverage was not great this year. Dinos Sport Therapy was really understaffed.
Results - Thank you to Verne Friesen for doing stats.
Fields - No issues with fields, other than both Airdrie teams enjoyed playing at Eastlake. Note: Eastlake Athletic Park will have locker rooms next year. Still need to address the porta potty issue.
