Badminton Pre-Season Meeting Minutes

3. Tournament Dates
Divisionals - Sat., Apr. 17
Sr. High Zones - Sat., Apr. 24 at Strathmore
Jr. High Zones - Wed, May 5 at Canmore/Banff
Provincials - Fri. and Sat., May 7 and 8 in Edmonton

4. Registration
Deadline is: Wednesday, April 14 at noon
Cochrane High, using a grant for hosting provincials (which came in after the tournament) is purchasing badminton tournament software. Action: JM to research, recommend and then instruct coaches on registration process.
Reminder to coaches to register with the ASAA at the same time. The ASAA registration deadline is April 15.

5. Classifications and Categories
Juvenile - Grade 9 - three teams in each category (singles, doubles, mixed)
Junior - Under 16 as of Sep. 1, 2009 - two teams in each category
Intermediate - Under 17 as of Sep. 1, 2009 - two teams in each category
Senior - Under 19 as of Sep. 1, 2009 - two teams in each category
* Note that Junior and Intermediate athletes can play up, Juvenile cannot.

8. Venues and Drawmasters
Action: JM to book schools and contact middle school athletic directors regarding setting up the nets, drawmaster tables and on-deck benches.

9. League Fees
$2.00 per competitor.

10. Awards
First, second and third-place medallions for all categories. Action: JM to Blue Box to drawmasters, who will take them to venue.
Divisional Championship banner for highest aggregate total will be Blue Boxed out the week after the tournament.

11. Code of Conduct
Action: Athletes, parents and coaches must sign Code of Conduct forms before the first league game or they are not eligible to participate. Principals are to send their declarations to the sports coordinator prior to the tournament.

12. Supervision
Action: JM to book community use (sports) supervisors for middle/elementary schools, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

13. Dress Code
School colours or white t-shirts and black shorts. Please remind your athletes that sleeveless tops, hats and bandanas are not permitted.

14. Shuttles
Yellow Yonex Mavis 300
Action: JM to order 26 tubes, to be distributed to drawmasters.

15. Out-of-pocket Expenses
Expenses are covered for teacher and community coaches. Forms can be downloaded from the Coaches' Corner section of the website.

16. Results
All results are to go to George McDougall at the end of the day.

17. Zones
The top two teams/competitors go to the Zone championships. Reminder: Coaches are to explain to athletes that they must declare their intention to compete (or not compete) at Zones the day of the Divisional tournament. Action: This year coaches are responsible for registering their players with the Zone.
