- Commissioner
Thank you to Mike Sera for his great work in his fifth year as commissioner. Mike has agreed to act as commissioner again next year.
- 2009-10 Review
A. Schedule - No comments on the schedule other than, if we can get better officiating coverage on different days, maybe we should look at that.
B. Officials - JM reported that the CBOA is having a round table discussion with its stakeholders in May. Action: JM and Mike Sera to take the following points to the CBOA:
1) Shuffle the deck - If we're paying for travel, why can't we get a vareity of officials instead of the same ones in the same areas game in and game out.
2) Game days - What are the least busiest days for the CBOA? i.e. more likely to get full coverage, the best officials
3) Unsportsmanlike calls - What is the criteria for these calls on players? On coaches? Can we get details of the calls on the scoresheet?
4). Consistency
Results/Statistics - Thanks to Mike for compiling each week.
Thank you to those coaches who consistently sent in their score sheets. The group discussed the significance of submitting score sheets. See 2010-11 Season.
- Divisional Championships
Thank you to Chestermere for hosting Divisional Championships this year.
- Banquet
Thursday, April 15 at Chestermere
Cost is $20 per person
Speaker: TBA
Action: Coaches are to get numbers to Brian Utley at Chestermere by April 1.
Action: JM to design and print program and send copies, as well as centrepieces and tablecloths to Chestermere.
- 2010-11 Season
Next season girls will play on Tuesday and boys on Wednesday. The Divisional championship and banquet host is Cochrane.
Action: Coaches are to send their tournament schedule to Mike Sera by May 15. Mike also asks coaches to let him know if they are able to play Fridays and Saturdays. It is recommended you get approval from your administrator to play Friday and/or Saturday.Coaches discussed moving the schedule back one week. An informal vote was taken and the people who wanted it the way it is and who didn't care one way or the other outnumbered the coaches that wanted it changed. Recommendation If you foresee a problem starting the first week in December, let Mike know and we'll see if we can reschedule those first-week games for you.
Action: JM to send a reminder to ADs with this deadline.
The group discussed different methods of reporting scores. In keeping with RVS's three-year plan for the 21st Century, we're going to try web reporting. Action: JM to research and implement over the summer.
- Pre-season Meeting
Tuesday, November 16, 2010
- Other
Eryahat and Rhonda (Chesetermere JV Boys) brought to the group the following: When a game becomes a 50 point (51 or 52) difference, the score should be frozen and that score should be used as the final score of the game. However the teams should continue to play with stop time as per normal so that the kids get the development by playing the game.
Coaches discussed but declined to admit a motion.
- Awards
Coaches agreed upon the following for each leagues:
- Each team receives a Heart Award
- 12 All-Star Awards per league, ensuring each team receives at least one all-star
- Major awards: Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Most Valuable Player.
