  2. Commissioner/Statistician
Thank you to Mike Sera, from Bert Church, for working as commissioner and statistician this season. A special thanks goes to Mike for all his work on our schedules.

  3. CBOA/FIBA Rules
Dick Vanderstam is the new convenor for the CBOA. His email address is vdstam@telusplanet.net and his phone number is 403-616-7727.
CBOA rates have increased to $46 per official per game. The game rate increased to $40, travel stayed the same at $6 per game per referee. Dick said there are no FIBA rule updates.

  4. Schedule
    Went over schedule changes.
Updated schedules are posted on the web (click for link):
    JV Girls
    JV Boys
    Varsity Girls
    Varsity Boys

Procedure for rescheduling games: Coaches negotiate a new date - please don't cc me on this. All four teams in the double header must agree to the change. Coaches then inform their administrators. Principals then contact me with the final agreed upon date and I try to reschedule officials. I will confirm with coaches and principals when I'm able to reschedule the game.

  5. Divisional Championships
Divisional schedules are online. JV quarter final and semi finals games are played at the higher seed. Varsity quarter finals are played at the higher seed and semi finals are all played at Chestermere. Bronze (junior) and gold medal games will be at Chestermere.
Action: Schools are asked to dig up any old Divisional Championship programs so that I can do one this year.

  6. Zone and Provincial Championships
Zone and provincial championship schedules are online.

  7. League Fees
Fees were adjusted to reflect changes in schedules:
    Junior teams - $740
    Senior teams - $700

  8. Team Rosters
ASAA registration deadline is Dec. 15. Deadline to add students is Feb. 15. Action: Coaches are to send rosters to Mike Sera and Jacquie Mirtle by November 30.

  9. Scoring and Results
Action: HOME COACHES are to fax scoresheets to Mike Sera (948-7496) no later than 9:00 the next morning. Please also email the score to Jacquie so that the website can be updated in a timely manner.

  10. Rules and Regulations
JV Zone Defence - JV teams are reminded that, for the first half of a home-and-home series, they are required to play man-to-man defence. A half-court zone trap is permitted. This motion has been in for the boys but just passed through Parameters for the girls.

Zone Eligibility - Coaches are to note a new South Central Zone eligibility rule that allows junior varsity basketball and volleyball players to now play an unlimited number of games with a senior varsity team. High schools are required to declare their rosters for both junior and senior varsity the Saturday before basketball and volleyball Zone competitions. Players may play in only one Zone tournament per sport per year.

Calgary Board Eligibility - Spoke with Tom Parker from the Calgary High Schools Athletic Association. They have had a rule on their books for quite some time that states their high school teams can't play against gr. 9s. Up until this year, it's never really been enforced. For volleyball, their executive ruled on an acception that allows only their junior varsity players to play against gr. 9s. Their organizational meeting is today and he expects the same ruling will be made for basketball. Action: JM to follow up and update the minutes with a confirmation from Tom.

  11. Code of Conduct
Action: Athletes, parents and coaches must sign Code of Conduct forms before the first league game or they are not eligible to participate. Principals are to send their declarations to the sports coordinator prior to the first league game.

  12. Awards
Coaches (and principals) agreed to the following last year:
    - Award each team a Heart Award
    - Drop the Team MVP Award
    - Increase the number of All-Star Awards to 12 per league, ensuring each team receives at least one all-star
    - Keep major awards (Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Most Valuable Player) the same.
Last year coaches felt this was the best way to recognize the best players in the league while still including all schools in the awards process.

Note: It is the head coach's responsibility to be informed about the league, keep up with what is happening during the season, attend the post season meeting, and make an informed decision for all-stars and major award winners.

  13. Banquet
The banquet is scheduled for Thursday, April 15 at Chestermere.

  14. Post-Season Meeting
The post-season meeting is Tuesday, March 9 at 4:30.

  15. Other
Coaches and ADs are asked to send Jacquie updated email addresses for coaches. As there are so many coaching changes throughout the year in all sports, it's easier if you let me know who should be added. Thanks.

Action: JM to inform CBOA that we need two minutes in between quarters and that half-time is 10 minutes..

Reminder to coaches: The warm up is to be a minimum of 15 minutes unless both coaches agree otherwise, i.e. it may be shortened due to weather considerations.
