High School Golf Post-season Meeting Minutes

October 27, 2010

  1. Attendees
    Jacquie Mirtle, RVS
    Ken Payne, George McDougall
    Bruce Kaufman, WG Murdoch
    Mike Sera, Bert Church
    Rob Wilson, Chestermere
    Ioan Matthews, Springbank

  2. Review of 2010-11 Tournament
Kids and coaches really enjoyed Strathmore. The service was excellent and the course is willing to offer the same for next year. Thanks to Rob Wilson for setting this up.

  3. Zones and Provincials
Results: Springbank Girls and Boys placed second and fourth, respectively, at Provincials.

  4. 2011-12 Commissioner
    Ken Payne, George McDougall

  5. 2011-12 Tournament
The tournament will be at Strathmore. Rocky View would also like to bid on Zones. Action: Ken Payne to communicate this with Kerri King or Chelsea Somerville, who will bring it to the South Central Zone spring meeting.
Reminder: Strathmore has a limited number of pull carts so students should bring their own.

  6. Motions

Ken Payne moves that, unless the Zone tournament is on the same day, schools that intend to compete at Zones are required to play at the divisional tournament. Rationale: In order to keep numbers up, we need all Rocky View schools to participate. Bruce Kaufman seconded the motion. Unanimously passed: 5 in favour.

Rob Wilson moves that we change the 18-hole qualifying round score for girls from 150 to 125. Rationale: A score between 125 and 150 is still too high. This motion would also be gender equal. Mike Sera seconded the motion. Unanimously passed: 5 in favour.

Bruce Kaufman moves that coaches declare a team of four grade 9 athletes, then take the best two of three scores on each hole. Rationale: This motion would align our grade 9 process with what we already do with senior/high school golf. It would also allow more grade 9s to participate. Ken Payne seconded the motion. Unanimously passed: 5 in favour.

  7. Out-of-pocket Expenses
RVS policy states that out-of-pocket expense claims should be made within one month of the completion of the season. Action: Coaches are to submit claims in a timely manner.

  8. Pre-season Meeting
