Dick Vanderstam is the assignor for the CBOA. His email address is vdstam@telusplanet.net and his phone number is 403-616-7727.
CBOA rates have increased to $48 per official per game. The game rate increased to $42, travel stayed the same at $6 per game per referee. Action: Coaches are to get pre-Christmas tournament requests into Dick ASAP. Update: Our request to "shuffle the deck", i.e. not always get the same officials in the same region was addressed. Dick said he would attempt to do this but officials have final say on what assignments they accept.
Ian Pollard And Brenton Pilling attended the meeting on behalf of the CBOA and presented rule changes. Action: Coaches are to review the rule change document found on the ASAA site (click here), paying particular attention to:
- 24-second rule
- 8-second rule
- game clock
- unsportsmanlike foul in last two minutes of the game.

Procedure for rescheduling games: Coaches negotiate a new date - please don't cc me on this. All four teams in the double header must agree to the change. Coaches then inform their administrators. Principals then contact me with the final agreed upon date and I try to reschedule officials. I will confirm with coaches and principals when I'm able to reschedule the game.

Please don't discard as we may have to refer to them throughout the season. If there has been a game ejection or several technical/unsportsmanlike fouls, then the host school will fax the scoresheet to Jacquie at 403-945-4011.
- Rules and Regulations
Our discipline policy states:
Players/coaches ejected from a game due to unsportsmanlike and/or flagrant conduct are automatically suspended for the next league or play-off game and receive a disciplinary letter from the commissioner with copies sent to the coach, principal and sports coordinator.
Under FIBA rules, a player can get an unsportsmanlinke foul for conduct that is not necessarily unsportsmanlike or flagrant, i.e. during the last two minutes of the game. We need a qualifying statement in our handbook that addresses this. Action: JM to inform coaches, administrators, and the RVSA executive that the policy is to be revised at the Parameters meeting and that, unless a player is ejected because of two flagrant unsportsmanlike fouls, he/she will not serve a game suspension.
Suspensions will be upheld for Article X 3.
Any player/coach accumulating two technical fouls during a game is suspended for the next league or play-off game and receives a disciplinary letter from the commissioner, with copies sent to the coach, principal and sports coordinator.
- Code of Conduct
Action: Athletes, parents and coaches must sign Code of Conduct forms before the first league game or they are not eligible to participate. Principals are to send their declarations to the sports coordinator prior to the first league game.
- Respect in Sport
Coaches are also reminded that completion of the Respect in Sport program is mandatory and must be completed by the start of your season. This applies to teacher and community coaches. Thank you for your compliance.
