  2. Commissioner
Did not have a commissioner this year. Here is the commissioner job description (as per the RVSA Handbook):
    1. To advise the Sports Coordinator and coaches on technical issues.
    2. To assist the Sports Coordinator in designing league and play-off schedules.
    3. To review results and rankings prior to Divisional Championships.
    4. To handle disciplinary actions involving ejections, suspensions and technical fouls including warning and ejection letters to the athletes, coaches and Principals.
    5. To sit on the Eligibility Review Committee.
    6. To co-chair the pre and post-season meetings with the Sports Coordinator.
    7. To attend as many events in their sport as possible.
    8. To attend and make presentations at the Divisional Championships and awards banquets.

Bring forward: We will be looking to fill this position at the pre-season meeting in the spring. Anyone interested is encouraged to contact Jacquie.

  3. Results
Thanks to Kristina Houle, from WG Murdoch, for doing stats again this year.

  4. Officials
One official at each match - junior or senior - has become the norm. Very few of our matches had two officials and those were only in Airdrie in Cochrane. (Reminder that the new plug-in fee system will reflect only those refs for which we were charged.) Action: JM to see if a referee clinic can be held during Teacher's Convention.

As a result of getting mainly only one official at each match, the group would like to put the girls back together and the boys together. See 9. Motions.

  5. Divisional Championships
Thank you to Doug Jenson and Cochrane High for hosting. Coaches are divided about opinions on the VolleyDome. Having the flexibility of numerous courts and getting done early are great but the noise level, lack of parking and lack of spectator seating is a problem. Action: JM to investigate Bearspaw Christian's new facility opening in January. Bring forward: Chestermere is up next in the rotation. The group should spend some time on this at the pre-season meeting because, as it stands, the handbook states divisionals are to be held at the VolleyDome.

Tiering of the girls league had some controversy associated with it. This is the second year we've done this for the senior girls and the first for the junior girls. The 4th, 5th, 6th place teams get lost in this format. Bring forward: Coaches agreed to sit down and come up with a better divisional tournament format.

  6. Banquet
    Monday, December 6 at 6:30
    Cochrane High
Price: $20 - Is a bit high but coaches agreed it is workable.
Deadline for numbers : Friday, November 26.
Schools are to email Esther Sieben and Landon Thompson with numbers. Also, please email a team shot to Esther.
Guest speaker: Shawn Sky, head coach at Mount Royal University (tentative)
Action: JM to design and print program.

  7. Pre-season Meeting
    Tuesday, May 17, 2011
    4:30 pm
    Education Centre, Airdrie
    Action: JM to invite CVOA
    Action: Bring forward
    -game ball
    -setting rule
    -boys double round robin

  8. Awards
    Award recipients were determined.

  9. Motions
Landon Thompson, Cochrane, moves that we book one official for both junior and senior varsity matches. Mike Sera, Bert Church, seconds the motion. Rationale: For about 80 per cent of our games we're only getting one official anyway. Coverage has decreased steadily. Vote: Motion carried, 7 in favour, unanimous.

Tanya Everson, Chestermere, moves that junior and senior varsity girls teams travel together and junior and varsity boys teams travel together, swapping early game times mid-way through the season. Carol Smith, Bert Church, seconds the motion. Rationale: Genders were split so that junior varsity could play with one official and senior could play with two. Since we're only getting (or booking if above motion passes through Parameters) one official then genders can go back to playing together. Vote: Motion carried, 7 in favour, unanimous.
