The commissioner position is open.
3. Officials
Item brought forward: Rules at a Glance from CVOA. I have not been able to get anything from the CVOA. There's no Zone 2 Chair yet that I can see. I will try again this spring.Action: JM to ask about upcoming referee clinics.
4. Rules and Regulations
Reminder that t here is a motion from your post-season meeting that is going to Parameters:
Motion: Tim Masse (George McDougall) moves that the RVSA align its volleyball tie-breaking procedures with those of the ASAA. Jerry Flaws, Chestermere, seconded the motion. Rationale: Our procedure is a little unclear, can be misinterpreted, and is not the one used by either Volleyball Canada or the ASAA. Vote: 8 in favour, 0 against.
The group discussed JV Girls net height and asked for clarification.
Update:
This is what is in our handbook: The net height for Varsity/Junior Varsity Girls is 2.24 m, 2.35 m for Junior Varsity Boys and 2.43 m for Varsity Boys. There is nothing in the Zone Handbook regarding net height for any leagues.
5. Schedules
You can access schedules by clicking on the following:
JV Girls
JV Boys
Varsity Girls
Varsity Boys
The schedules reflect flipped home and home, games cycled down through dates and boys and girls start times switched half-way throught the season. Action: JM to post final drafts after Parameters meeting (June 1).
6. Divisional Championships
Cochrane is up in the Divisional host rotation.
If you want to hold Divisionals at the VolleyDome, we need another motion as last year's specified the 2009-10 season
Motion: Chelsea Somerville (George McDougall) moves that we hold divisionals at the Volleydome. Dave Banderk (Chestermere) seconds the motion.
Rationale: Feedback from coaches at the post-season meeting was very favourable toward this venue.
Vote: 6 in favour, 1 against. Motion carried.
Action: If the motion passes through Parameters, JM will email coaches to remind parents to carpool; remind kids to bring lunch as there isn't much onsite; and label courts with sponsor names.
Instead of gold medallions, the group thought it more appropriate to award a plaque to the "divison 2" senior girls winner. Action: JM to order and engrave "Sr. Girls Pool B Divisional Champions."
The senior girls group wants to schedule a 4th vs. 5th place match, like a play-in for Divisionals. JM has included that in the schedule.
7. League fees
JV Girls - reduced to $450
JV Boys - stays the same at $350
Varsity Girls - reduced to $550
Varsity Boys - stays the same at $500
Note: JV and Varsity Girls plug-in fees are perennially hard to predict as the number of teams participating, as does the schedule format. JM will recommend to high school admin that we go to an invoice system where all expenses are tallied at the end of the year, at which time schools will be invoiced.
8. Team Declaration
The ASAA registration deadline has been moved up to October 1. You can submit your roster to me at the same time. Reminder: All teams register on ExNet regardless of whether or not they intend to compete at provincials.
9. Results
Basketball definitely wants web-based score reporting so I'm looking at implementing for all of our sports. Landon Thompson recommended itNet.
10. Code of Conduct
Athletes, parents and coaches must sign Code of Conduct forms before the first league game or they are not eligible to participate. Principals are to send their declarations to the sports coordinator prior to the first league game.
11. Awards
Recipients will be determined at the post-season meeting so it's imperative that coaches attend or send a representative with their informaiton.
12. Banquet
Monday, December 6
Hosted by Cochrane
13. Post-season Meeting
Tuesday, November 23 at 4:30.
14. Banners
Chelsea Somerville suggested we bring to Parameters a discussion about Divisional Championship banners and whether or not schools use them. Another option would be to spend the money on a nice "photo op" banner that we can use year after year.
